HOW FAST THEM TRUCKS CAN GO

Margo Smith - How Far Is Heaven

From JOHNNY:

I THINK EVERYONE HAD A BLAST AT THE REUNION. I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END SO SOON. WE OUGHT TO HAVE ONE EVERY YEAR, JUST NOT GO TO ALL THE WORK, JUST GET TOGETHER. THAT WAY, SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT MISSED THIS YEAR, COULD COME NEXT YEAR, I'M SERIOUS. I FELT LIKE I WAS IN "BACK TO THE FUTURE" & JUMPED 50 YEARS AHEAD IN TIME TO PARSONS, KANSAS. I LOVE PARSONS, I REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE. I THOUGHT THE KITCHEN PASS WAS AWESOME. PARSONS IS REALLY LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH A NICE RESTAURANT. I BET THEY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE US EVERY YEAR. OH WELL, EVERY 2 YEARS FOR THE PHS ALL SCHOOL GOLDEN REUNION IS THE NEXT BEST THING.

I'm not sure where my 64 annual is, so I ordered one for $60 from classmates.com when I got home. They get an annual from each school and make a new copy. You'll never guess whos annual it was. When I got to the messages in the back of the annual, there were lots of notes from everyone to David Brenner.

WAY TO GO SHARON SWANWICK & TOMMY SMITH FOR WRITING YOUR PROFILES. TOMMY, WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT THE 64 ANNUAL, I SAW YOU WERE ON THE PHS TENNIS TEAM.

WAY TO GO SALLY SIMMONS FOR ADDING YOUR PROFILE 11-14-14. I LOVED THE PART ABOUT DRAGGING MAIN ONE MORE TIME AND HONKING IN THE SUBWAY. I DO THE SAME THING EVERY TIME I'M IN PARSONS.

THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE CLASS OF 64 BECAME SCHOOL TEACHERS INCLUDING MYSELF, IF ONLY FOR 3 YEARS.

CHECK OUT THE HILARIOUS "FLASHBACKS" AT THE BOTTOM.

I WENT TO PARSONS JR. COLLEGE FOR 2 YEARS & PITTSBURG STATE FOR 3 YEARS, & THEN TAUGHT SCHOOL FOR 3 YEARS, INDUSTRIAL ARTS WOODWORKING AT COUNCIL GROVE & SALINA KANSAS.

IN 1972 I OPENED MY 1st OF 5 RESTAURANTS IN NEVADA MISSOURI. JIM BRUCE, FROM PHS CLASS OF 64, WANDERED IN FOR PIZZA ONE DAY. JACKIE WALLACE, PHS CLASS OF 65 ALSO APPEARED ONE DAY. JIM STIGALL TOLD ME AT THE REUNION THAT HE STOPPED BY FOR PIZZA, BUT I DIDN'T REMEMBER THAT.

IN 1974, I TRIED TO COME BACK TO PARSONS TO OPEN MY 2nd RESTAURANT. I REALLY WANTED TO MOVE BACK TO PARSONS, BUT WHEN IT DIDN'T WORK OUT, I WOUND UP GOING TO MUSKOGEE OKLAHOMA INSTEAD AND OPENED J&S PIZZA PALACE #3.

IN 1975 I OPENED MY 3rd PIZZA LOCATION IN TAHLEQUAH OKLAHOMA.
IN 1979 I OPENED THE FIRST LINDENLOFT PIZZA IN MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA WITH SEATING FOR 225 PEOPLE.

IN 2007 I OPENED LINDENLOFT #2 IN MUSKOGEE. I ALWALYS ENJOYED DOING 90% OF THE REMODELING MYSELF. AT AGE 58 I DID ALL THE REMODELING MYSELF WORKING 12 HOURS A DAY FOR 4 & 1/2 MONTHS. I HAD TAKED MEDICATION FOR AN IRREGULAR HEART BEAT SINCE 1993 AND HAD A HEART ABLATION SURGERY IN 2013 WHEN THE MEDICATION DIDN'T WORK ANYMORE. I HAD TO SELL THE RESTAURANT IN 2014 BECAUSE MY HEART COULDN'T TAKE ALL THE STRESS ANYMORE.

YOU CAN FIND ALL KINDS OF INTERESTING READING, AWESOME CLASSIC POP & CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC, GREAT FOOD, & SEE A PICTURE OF
JANE BAIR, FORMER MISS KANSAS 1968, FROM PARSONS KANSAS. ON P3, PIC #147 SEE RUNNER UP TO 1968 MISS KANSAS, ALSO FROM PARSONS, ROBBIE BREWER WITH MISS AMERICA.
SHE IS IN PICTURE #3 ON THE CLASSIC MUSIC PAGE.
JANE IS IN PICTURE # 5 ON P1, IN PICTURE #13 NEXT TO MISS AMERICA, DEBBIE BARNES.

I SPENT 14 HOURS CROPPING 60 PICTURES, AS MANY AS I COULD SQUEEZE INTO ONE PICTURE AND STILL READ THE NAMES, FROM THE PHS CLASS OF 1964 IN PICTURE #35, P1.

MY DAUGHTER JENNIFER HAD THE LEAD ROLL OF ROSIE IN BYE BYE BIRDIE HER SENIOR YEAR IN 1998 AT MUSKOGEE HIGH SCHOOL. SHE WAS ALSO IN SOUTH PACIFIC & OKLAHOMA. SHE IS NOW A DIETICIAN IN MUSKOGEE. I SANG IN BYE BYE BIRDIE IN 1964 AT PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL.

MY DAUGHTER JULIE WAS 3 YEAR VARSITY CHEERLEADER AT MUSKOGEE HIGH AND PLAYED SOCCER THROUGH 2001 AT MHS & COLLEGE & GRADUATED FROM OU MEDICAL SCHOOL, WHERE HER MOTHER WAS VALEDICTORIAN OF HER PHARMACY CLASS. JULIE MOVED TO SEATTLE & MET A YOUNG DOCTOR FROM TEXAS. THEY MOVED TO DALLAS, WHERE JULIE IS A LAZER EYE SURGEON. THEY JUST GOT MARRIED SEPT. 13th IN SEATTLE, WHERE THEY MET. THEY BOTH RAN IN THE SAN FRANCISCO MARATHON IN NOVEMBER 2014.
AFTER DALLAS, THEY MOVED TO SALT LAKE CITY.

I REALLY ENJOYED VIDEOTAPING ALL MY DAUGHTERS DANCE RECITALS, MUSICALS, SOCCER GAMES, CHEERLEADING AT FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL GAMES, FAMILY VIDEOS, AND SERMONS AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH.

I'M PROUD TO HEAR THE NAME PARSONS, AS IN PARSONS KANSAS, EVERYTIME I WATCH CHANDLER PARSONS PLAY BASKETBALL IN THE NBA FOR HOUSTON, DALLAS, & MEMPHIS. I THINK HE KINDA LOOKS LIKE ELVIS. I THINK DOUG MOSES LOOKS LIKE AUDIE MURPHY.

YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER MY SISTER IN LAW, CATHIE TOLMAN, THAT WAS FOOTBALL QUEEN AT PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL IN 1967. I HAD ANOTHER SISTER IN LAW THAT WAS FOOTBALL QUEEN AT NORTHEASTERN STATE UNIVERSITY IN TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA. I KNOW WAYNE TODD, FROM THE PHS CLASS OF 64 REMEMBERS CATHIE, BECAUSE THEY GOT MARRIED. I WAS VERY HAPPY TO SEE THAT THEY'RE STILL MARRIED & IN GOOD HEALTH. CATHIE WAS THE MAID OF HONOR IN MY WEDDING TO HER SISTER BARBARA, AND HER SISTER HELEN WAS ONE OF THE BRIDESMAIDS. T. J. AUSTIN WAS A GROOMSMAN, AND STEVE COOPER WAS BEST MAN.
STEVE & HELEN & CATHIE & WAYNE WERE DATING AT THE TIME .

CARRIE UNDERWOOD GREW UP JUST 20 MILES FROM MUSKOGEE & WENT TO CHECOTAH HIGH SCHOOL WHERE MY DAUGHTERS GRANDPA WAS A VERY POPULAR & WELL LOVED PRINCIPAL. THEIR COUSINS WERE IN THE SAME GRADUATING CLASS AS CARRIE. EVERY TIME I WATCH A RANDOLPH SCOTT MOVIE, I'M LOOKING AT JENNIFER & JULIE'S GRANDPA.

....... HILARIOUS ....... FLASHBACKS .......

#1 In 1973 my beautiful wife Sandy from Salina, Kansas & I had a front row seat at mid court for a Kansas City Kings/Los Angeles Lakers NBA basketball game. A ticket cost only $10. As the game ended, Sandy walked up to Wilt Chamberlain and asked him for his autograph, and he just ignored her and kept on walking. Sandy couldn't believe it. I thought it was hilarious, If you knew Sandy.

#2 ONE NIGHT DAVID BRENNER & I CLIMBED ON THE REAR BUMPER OF CHIPPER MARQUARDT'S MODEL A FORD, WHEN HE WAS ABOUT TO TAKE OFF DOWN THE STREET. GARY BEVINS & SHERMAN COLLINS WERE SMART ENOUGH TO GET INSIDE THE CAR. WHEN HE GOT UP TO 30 MILES AN HOUR, IT WAS ALL DAVID & I COULD DO TO HANG ON, TILL HE FINALLY CAME TO A STOP, A FEW BLOCKS LATER. YOU CAN SEE A PICTURE OF DAVID BRENNER & THE MODEL A FORD ON PAGE 60 IN OUR 1964 PHS ANNUAL.

#3 ANOTHER TIME DAVID BRENNER WAS RIDING ON THE BACK OF MY MOTORCYCLE WHEN I PULLED OUT ON MAIN STREET. HE WASN'T HOLDING ON AND HE ROLLED OVER BACKWARDS, AND THE ONLY THING THAT KEPT HIM FROM FALLING OFF ON HIS HEAD WAS HIS FEET CAUGHT ME UNDER BOTH ARMS.

#4 STEVE COOPER & I WENT FISHING AT LAKE PARSONS IN STEVE'S CAR. WE HAD A FLAT TIRE & WHEN WE LOOKED IN THE TRUCK, THERE WASN'T A SPARE. WE HAD TO HITCH A RIDE BACK TO TOWN ONLY TO FIND OUT THE SPARE TIRE WAS UNDER THE FLOOR OF THE TRUNK. ON ANOTHER FISHING TRIP TO THE LAKE, WE LOCKED THE KEYS IN MY TRUNK, AND YOU KNOW WHAT'S NEXT, AGAIN. ANOTHER TIME WE FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO FISHING AT NIGHT AND LEAVE THE HEADLIGHTS AND RADIO ON TOO LONG. DEAD BATTERY.

#5 ONE NIGHT GORDON PIPER & I TURNED AROUND IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EAST-WEST BASKETBALL GAME & ACCIDENTLY BUTTED HEADS. AFTER THE GAME, I HAD TO GO TO THE DOCTOR AND GET STITCHES.

#6 ONE DAY WE NOTICED EVERYTIME YOU PUT A NICKLE IN THE COKE MACHINE, IT WOULD GIVE YOU A COKE AND A NICKLE CHANGE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE DRANK ALL THE POP WE COULD HOLD, BEFORE RETURNING TO CLASS.

#7 DOUG JONES & I GOT KICKED OUT OF BASKETBALL PRACTICE ONE NIGHT AFTER WE HAD A NOT SO FRIENDLY DISAGREEMENT. ANOTHER TIME HAROLD JOHNSON KICKED GEORGE HARVEY, A FUTURE NEW ORLEANS SAINT, OUT OF BASKETBALL PRACTICE FOR THROWING AN ELBOW AT ME, RIGHT BEFORE THE STATE TOURNMENT.

#8 YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER THE FAMOUS WALKOUT AFTER WE WON THE REGIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL MADE HEADLINES ON WHB KANSAS CITY RADIO, WHEN HALF THE HIGH SCHOOL WALKED OUT OF THE PEP ASSEMBLY IN THE OLD PHS/PJC ON MAIN STREET, NOW THE JR. HIGH. THEN WE WENT ON A WILD RIDE HONKING HORNS AND RUNNING STOP SIGNS THROUGH SOUTHEAST KANSAS INCLUDING PARSONS, ALTAMONT, COFFEVILLE, AND GOT STOPPED BY A POLICE ROAD BLOCK HEADING INTO INDEPENDENCE. AFTER WE GOT TO EACH TOWN,WE STOPPED & WENT CHARGING THROUGH THE HIGH SCHOOL. AT COFFEVILLE, DAVID AMOS WAS THE 2nd TO LAST PERSON OUT THE DOOR AHEAD OF ME. HE TURNED AROUND AND PUNCHED A COFFEVILLE STUDENT, THAT WAS PULLING ON HIS LETTER JACKET, RIGHT IN FRONT OF A TEACHER. ONE PARSONS TEACHER'S SON DROVE OFF WITHOUT PAYING FOR HIS GAS AT ALTAMONT. IN 1962 YOU COULD FILL UP THE TANK FOR ABOUT $5. HE WAS A RELATIVE OF JACKIE WALLACE, "HINT". EVERYONE'S OLD CLUNKERS KEPT BREAKING DOWN AND FALLING OUT OF THE RACE. GARY BEVINS' 1950 MERCURY THAT WE WERE IN OVERHEATED AND DIED COMING OVER BENDER MOUNDS ON THE WAY HOME. WE HAD TO WALK WAY OUT IN THIS FIELD AND CARRY WATER FROM A POND. THANKFULLY WERE BROKE DOWN ABOUT 90 YEARS AFTER KATE BENDER WAS GONE.

Kate Bender - Stories of the Century - FAMOUS BENDER MOUNDS WEST OF PARSONS DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE FIRST SERIAL KILLERS IN THE USA STARING JIM DAVIS OF DALLAS FAME WHO LOOKS A LOT LIKE LARRY STONE FROM THE PARSONS CLASS OF 1964. ALSO STARING SLIM PICKENS

#9 I GOT MY FIRST SPEEDING TICKET, OUT BY PHS, GIVING MY SISTER IN LAW CATHIE TOLMAN A RIDE HOME FROM SCHOOL ONE DAY. CATHIE WAS THE 1967 PHS FOOTBALL QUEEN. I WASN'T VERY HAPPY WITH THAT POLICEMAN, BECAUSE A WEEK EARLIER, DAVID BRENNER, LARRY STONE & I WERE RIDING AROUND WITH 3 GIRLS, & JANE BAIR, THE FUTURE MISS KANSAS FROM PARSONS, WAS DRIVING & SPEEDING LIKE CRAZY. SHE FINALLY GOT PULLED OVER & ONLY GOT A WARNING. WHEN I GOT STOPPED, HE COULDN'T WAIT TO GIVE ME A TICKET. I WAS SO BUSY TALKING TO CATHIE, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I WAS SPEEDING. YOU CAN SEE A PICTURE OF JANE BAIR ON PAGE 1, PICTURE #5, BOTTOM ROW, FAR RIGHT PICTURE #13.

#10 ANOTHER TIME THE PARSONS JUNIOR COLLEGE GOLF TEAM WENT DOWN TO COFFEVILLE TO PLAY JACK KIRKPATRICK & THE RED RAVENS. AFTER PLAYING GOLF, WE GOT A BUNCH OF BEER & HEADED HOME. I NEVER DRINK, SO I DIDN'T HANDLE A FEW BEERS VERY WELL. WE STOPPED FOR SOME REASON, I WONDER WHAT, HALF WAY HOME, & THE CAR WOULDN'T START. LESLIE KOMATZ WAS DRIVING, SO HE HAD TO HITCH A RIDE BACK TO PARSONS & GET ANOTHER CAR, AS DRUNK AS WE WERE. JUST ASK JIM NICHOLS.
#11 ANOTHER TIME SEVERAL OF US WERE RIDING MOTORCYCLES DOWN, ACROSS AND BACK UP THIS STEEP DRY CREEK BED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF SOUTHERN AVENUE AND JUDGE RICKY TUCKER GOT HALF WAY UP THE BANK ON HIS CUSHMAN MOTOR SCOOTER, AND IT DIED. HE STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS AND CRASHED BACK DOWN THE HILL. I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD, I POOPED MY PANTS. I HAD TO GIVE DAVID BRENNER A RIDE HOME REAL QUICK.

HE MESSED HIS PANTS - SHARON OSBOURNE

#12 ONE SUMMER CHIPPER MARQUARDT, JIM NICHOLS, MYSELF & SOME OTHERS WERE WORKING ON THE KATY RAILROAD FOR $2.36 AN HOUR, WHICH WAS OVER TRIPLE MINIMUM WAGE AT THAT TIME. THANK GOODNESS GAS WAS 25c A GALLON. WE HAD TO DRIVE 80 MILES UP & 80 MILES HOME EVERYDAY. ONE DAY WE FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DRIVE TOO FAST, WHEN IT'S POURING DOWN RAIN. THE CAR TURNS SIDEWAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THANK GOODNESS WE WEREN'T PASSING ANOTHER CAR, AT THE SAME TIME. WE WERE WORKING ONE DAY IN 1965 WHEN THE LAST PASSENGER TRAIN ON THE KATY RAILROAD WENT BY GOING FROM KANSAS CITY TO PARSONS AND ON SOUTH TO TEXAS.

#14 DONNIE REEL & I WENT WATER SKIING ONE SATURDAY AT LAKE PARSONS. I FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU WATER SKI TOO CLOSE TO THE SHORE. AN OLD ROAD THAT CAME DOWN INTO THE LAKE KNOCKED ME OFF THE SKIS AND HURT MY FOOT REALLY BAD. DONNIE & I STILL RODE THE TRAIN, WITH ME ON CRUTCHES, TO KANSAS CITY THE NEXT DAY TO WATCH THE NEW YORK YANKEES PLAY BASEBALL.

#15 ANOTHER TIME I TOOK MY DADS BOAT WITH DAVID BRENNER AND BOBBY SONTAG OR DONNIE REEL, DOWN TO GRAND LAKE. WE PULLED INTO A LITTLE CAFE ON THE LAKE AND ORDERED HAMBURGERS. I ONLY LIKED MY CHEESEBURGERS PLAIN WITH CHEESE ONLY. I FORGOT TO TELL THEM PLAIN, AND THEY PUT EVERYTHING ON IT. I LIKED IT SO WELL, I'VE ORDERED THEM LIKE THAT EVER SINCE.

#16 ROBBIE BREWER'S COUSIN, MIKE BREWER & I WENT ON A 50 MILE HIKE, THAT ROBERT KENNEDY WAS PROMOTING. WE WERE TRYING TO BEAT THE TIME OF DAVID AMOS & SOMEBODY THAT TOOK 16 HOURS TO WALK, OR WALK & RIDE, FROM MIAMI OK. TO PARSONS. WE WALKED THE FIRST 25 MILES FROM IOLA TO CHANUTE & IT TOOK US 9 HOURS. WE COULD SEE THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO SPEED IT UP, IF WE WERE GOING TO MAKE IT IN UNDER 16 HOURS. SO WE RAN 15 OF THE LAST 25 MILES BY WALKING 50 PACES & RUNNING 50 PACES & REPEATING IT. RICKY TUCKER, DAVID BRENNER & SOME OTHERS DROVE OUT NORTH OF LINDA BOLANDER'S HOUSE & TOLD US IT WAS STILL 3 MILES TO TOWN, SO WE RAN THE LAST THREE MILES & MADE IT IN 14 & 1/2 HOURS. TO OUR SUPRISE, INSTEAD OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER FROM THE NEWSPAPER THERE TO GREET US WITH A PHOTO & FRONT PAGE STORY LIKE THE MIAMI DUO, THE PHOTOGRAPHER WAS AT THE JR HIGH BB TOURNAMENT INSTEAD. WE GOT A BATH & A HOT MEAL & WE WENT OUT TO PHS & WATCHED THE BB GAMES. AFTER WE GOT COOLED OFF & GOT STIFF, OUR FEET & KNEES HURT SO BAD, WE COULD BARELY WALK IN SLOW MOTION.

#17 REMEMBER HOW WE USED TO GO ICE SKATING ON LINDA BOLANDERS POND. SUZIE SCHMID, LINDA BOLANDER & I GREW UP IN THE SAME SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS AT THE EUB CHURCH. WE WERE ON A VISIT TO INDEPENDENCE KS. ONE SUNDAY, ON AUGUST 5th, 1962, WHEN WE HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT MARILYN MONROE DIED.

#18 MELVIN SHOESMITH TOLD ME A STORY AT THE REUNION I DIDN'T REMEMBER. HE SAID I TOOK HIM & BOBBIE SONTAG TO LAKE PARSONS TO GO WATER SKIING. THE MOTOR WOULDN'T START & WE DRIFTED OUT IN THE LAKE, SO THEY HAD TO SWIM & DRAG THE BOAT BACK TO SHORE. THEN, WE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM. YOU HAVE TO PLUG THE GAS LINE IN TO THE MOTOR, IF YOU WANT THE MOTOR TO START.

#19 STEVE COOPER TOLD ME ANOTHER STORY AT THE REUNION THAT I DIDN'T REMEMBER. STEVE SAID ONE TIME WE WENT FISHING & DIDN'T WANT TO CLEAN THE FISH, SO WE DECIDED TO TAKE THEM OVER TO CATHIE TOLMANS POND. WE PROCEEDED TO GET STUCK IN THE MUD & HAD TO WAIT TILL HER DAD CAME HOME FROM CHURCH, TO PULL US OUT.

#20 DURNING THE STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT IN 1963, I DROVE DONALD KIRK, DAVID BRENNER, DOUG JONES TO WICHITA TO WATCH THE GAMES. WE HAD A WILD TIME AT A 10 STORY HOTEL DROPING WATER BALOONS OFF THE ROOF DOWN ON THE FRONT SIDEWALK AND HAVING WATER GUN FIGHTS IN THE HOTEL ROOM. WE SHOT DARTS UP AND STUCK THEM ON THE CEILING IN THE LOBBY. WHAT BRATS WE WERE.

21. ONCE IN A WHILE, PARSONS JUNIOR COLLEGE'S NATIONAL CHAMPION JAVELIN THROWER JIM ALLISON, DAVID BRENNER, LARRY STONE, & I & A FEW OTHER GUYS WOULD GO BUSHWHACKING AT NIGHT OUT IN THE BOONIES OUT IN SOME FARMERS FIELD. WE WOULD TRY TO CATCH PEOPLE PARKING. ONE NIGHT BARBARA TOLMAN & I WERE GOING FOR A MOONLIGHT DRIVE OUT IN THE BOONIES & GOT STUCK IN THE MUD. I DON'T REMEMBER HOW WE GOT HOME, BUT THE NEXT DAY MY DAD & I HAD TO GO OUT & PULL THE CAR OUT OF THE MUD.

22. ONE TIME IN A PARSONS INDUSTRIAL LEAGUE BASKETBALL GAME, I STOLE THE BALL & PASSED IT TO JIM ALLISON FOR A LAYUP. JIM WAS THE CURRENT NATIONAL CHAMPION JAVELIN THROWER FROM PARSONS JUNIOR COLLEGE. WHILE HE WAS UP IN THE AIR SHOOTING A LAYUP, SOMEONE RAN UNDER JIM & HE LANDED ON HIS HEAD & NATIONAL CHAMPION RIGHT ARM. WHEN HE GOT UP HE HAD A HORRIBLE BEND IN HIS ARM, & DAVID BRENNER HAD TO LEAVE THE GAME TO RUSH HIM TO THE ER. YOU CAN SEE JIM'S PICTURE THROWING THE JAVELIN ON PAGE 3, PICTURE #53.

23. ANOTHER TIME WE WERE PLAYING BEN WITTY'S TEAM IN THE SEASON ENDING TOURNAMENT, & WE WERE 1 POINT BEHIND WITH 10 SECONDS TO GO. I DRIBBLED THE BALL THE FULL LENGTH OF THE COURT AND HIT A 22 FOOT SHOT TO WIN THE GAME. BEN WHITTY WANTS TO WIN SO BAD, HE WAS IN THE DRESSING ROOM BALLING, BECAUSE THEY LOST THE GAME. HE WENT ON TO PLAY FOR PARSONS JR. COLLEGE & PITTSBURG STATE. THEN HE BECAME A H. S. BB COACH.

#24 Facebook post 4-2-17 from Cristi Smith Wilson about closing the Parsons Country Club2sxw : We spent a lot of time there growing up.... lots of family-fun picnics with others (Shuss's, Markham's, Litwin's, Lemmond's, and others I'm forgetting) on top of the hill to the left of the drive up. Diane Litwin and I decided to try walking on the ice at the pond by hole #3 or #4, and I fell through, then she fell through trying to "save" me. That's when we discovered it was only about 4 ft deep, but we froze getting back to the club house. My dad, Herman Smith was the CC Champion for 3 yrs in a row and was awarded a large trophy, "The Alvin Miller" Trophy! We still have it somewhere.

#25 Patty Bushey's mom was a first year school teacher and PHS in her 40's and she wore a hearing aid. Mrs. Bushey's brother was Postmaster General of the United States in the Kennedy administration. One day in 6th hour my beautiful cousin from Muskogee, Ok came to visit the class, so all us boys had to put on a show for Carolyn. We threw paper wads all over the room and kept talking through the whole hour. Mrs. bushey couldn't hear where the noise was coming from because of her hearing aid, so she got mad and made the whole class and my cousin stay after class for one hour. We didn't do that again.

#26 One year when the Lake Parsons spillway and creek were frozen and snow covered, David Brenner and I and a couple of others went sledding down the spillway onto the creek. David crashed into some rocks that jutted out into the creek.

#27 The last friday of the 1964 school year when they let the senior class out of school for the day, David Brenner and I and several others from our class went swimming at the Galesburg rock quarry, because the water was so beautiful and clear compared to the muddy lake and river. David didn't put on any sun tan lotion and was in the sun so long, he got a terrible sunburn with blisters all over his back. He had to miss baccalaureate services at the municipal building on sunday because there was no way he could put on a shirt.

#28 One summer David Brenner and Judge Ricky Tucker were part of the scout camp staff at Independence and several of us Parsons scouts spent a week camping out around the lake. Somebody, I won't say who, brought some beer and sank it down in the cold water since we didn't have a refridgerator. I never saw or drank any of the beer. I just heard the story about it.

WAY TO GO YOU GUYS AND GALS THAT KEEP ADDING YOUR PROFILES. EVERYBODY CAN EASILY EDIT YOUR PROFILE BY SENDING AN EMAIL TO LINDEN_LOFT@YAHOO.COM OR PHS CLASS OF 1964 WEBSITE

OKIE FROM MUSKOGEE

REAL OKIES FROM MUSKOGEE

1/20/18
Linda Wiles: ‎ to What's Going On Muskogee OK!!
·
Was Lindenloft Pizza in a small strip mall on York back in the 70's? If so, what was the name of the mall and was it on the corner of York and Chandler where Homeland is now?
Shayla Christensen: Are they still open in shadow wood? I’ve been dying for some of their pizza here lately
Tracy Gatwood: Dad sold it 6-1-14 to the individuals that own it now.
Christina Lewis: I remember my dad telling me how he used to skip school with his friends and go to "the mall and get lindenloft's" and many other stories of Muskogee from back in the day, late 70s early 80s. It's created this burning passion for history, especially local history. I wish I could travel back and see for myself how it used to be. After a jr. high football game it would be standing room only with 300 people cramed in there.
Marsha Trueblood Horn: Garlic bread was Creamy italian dressing on bread toasted in the oven
Pam Welch Ross: I'll never forget the train and those alpine sticks.
Derrick Abel: Train is on display somewhere......In Muskogee at Lindenloft.com
ex Cheatham Lindenloft was the hangout back in the day
Carol Coleman: Don't remember the name of Mall area but yes that was where they were. Best place ever
Renee' Moore: It was where Homeland on chandler is now.
Shayla Christensen: Are they still open in shadow wood? I’ve been dying for some of their pizza here lately
Derrick Abel
Derrick Abel Not the same recipe
Shayla Christensen: Damn
Jeanette Hunter Yes we are still
Open in Shadow Wood. We make the same alpine cheese bread, we bought the business from Johnny Linden 3 years ago. Our name is Three Rivers Pizzeria.
Shayla Christensen: My favorite was the alpine pizza because it didn’t have the red sauce that messed up my stomach
Beverly Redfearn Hiser My cousin and I used to go and play the sit down Ms. Pac Man game he had where you played against each other. It was great.
Derrick Abel: It's still around too. I have a new one now.
Donna Genn Johnston It was J&S pizza before it was Lindenloft
Kenneth Alexander: It was still owned by Johnny Linden and his then wife when it was J & S.
Derrick Abel: Johnny and Sandy
anie Doyle Cook Shadow wood mall I think. I worked there for a while. That was 30 some years ago though 😂 Marsha Trueblood Horn: I remember that Janie Doyle Cook i worked at Lindenloft David Adams Not at shadowwood then, at Chandler road mall
Marsha Trueblood Horn: we had some fun back then
Johnny Linden: Chandler Road Mall, the bowling alley in the 50's
Charlene Menees Points There was a clothing store in the mall too call Donna's I brought the dress that I got married in back in the early 70's.
Robin Renfro I worked there in the 70's. It was in Chandler street mall
Derrick Abel: www.parsons1964.com

Johnny Linden: www.lindenloft.com or www.7000songs.com there are over 7000 gorgeous classic songs that you never hear on the radio, that will put you in a fabulous mood and change your life.
Johnny Linden: You can see pictures of the 1980's Lindenloft with the train and the pretty blue & yellow Lindenloft decor in Shadowwood Mall from 2007 to 2014.
Derrick Abel: There is a tab at top right of page for lindenloft's history.
Donnell Thomas: Bowling alley and it was J and S Pizza Palace before Lindenloft and yes it was a on the corner of york and. Chandler.
Chris Cummings Sr. I thought it was Lindenwood Mall.
Derrick Abel Nope
Steve Elsey We all hung out there . Had some good times there
Alicia Mike Rodriguez Cruz: yes Brian Ousley's gym was there. My brother in law Charlie bought Zepp's and ran it before everythimg was tore down to build Albertson's
Tammy Chapman Calhoun Lindenloft pizza opened back up a few years ago in the bottom of shadow wood mall. Had great bbq and alpine pizza. No train but now someone else owns it now.
Derrick Abel: It was the Chandler road mall. I was the last manager there and I closed it down and did cleanup in 1988. I opened Hollywood Pizzeria in the lower level of shadowood mall. Johnny Linden gave me quite a bit of the original equipment and related items. He also developed my dough and we had the original alpine, cooked the correct way. He bought it from me in 2007. He ran it under lindenloft's for a few years and then sold it to Hunter enterprises, the building owner.
Derrick Abel I have the original alpine..I wonder if anyone would wanna buy it?
Larry Cragg You could share the alpine!!! I would go there just to eat the alpine. It was heaven back in those days.
Derrick Abel What if I bottled it and sold it
---------------------------------------------------- Beverly Redfearn Hiser Didn't they have shredded lettuce for their salads? Best alpine dressing and their chef salads were awesome.
Derrick Abel Yes. Shredded
Linda Wiles Was it torn down during all the roadwork on York?
Linda Wiles Then Albertsons built on the site.
Derrick Abel 1974 1988 was the years open. Lindenlofts
Jon M Edwards ...and you made and served pizza to my wife and I the last night of business. We will never forget that time.
Diana Kennedy I loved their garlic bread. Would love to know how. It was made.
Derrick Abel I know how.
Megan Shea Creamy Italian dressing and mozzarella makes a good substitute for their bread. It was good stuff.
Bonnie Walker: Yes, they were in the building where Zeps was in the 90's.
Johnny Linden: When Lindenloft closed on 4-1-88, someone opened a bar for a while, then Zepps opened for a few years.
Johnny Linden Someone remembered the 1st bar was called Legends.
Larry Cragg Ok. Derrick you need to come across. Alpine and the garlic bread which was to die for. I’ll buy it. 😜👍 Derrick Abel I have everything to make it. And do every so often
Donna Genn Johnston alias Donna Wilson Lindenloft manager: You can buy Alpine dressing at Simple Simons Pizza in ft Gibson
Chris Liebig Lindenloft, which eventually became Zepp’s Bar and Grill. Next to it was Ty’s Hamburgers. In the back was Strictly Fitness. Across the parking lot was PJ’s liquor. When Strictly Fitness moved, Silver Buckle Saloon went in back there. It was called Chandler Road Mall. During the later times to my recollection.
Janet Goodwin-Ellis: There was also a bar called Legends.
Amantha Smith: So if you make it often why do we never get any? Hmmm?
Derrick Abel We can go down to my old pizza place some night and have a company meeting and enjoy some real alpine pizza and garlic bread. My treat.
Samantha Smith Sweet!
Johnny Linden: You can get the same exact alpine pizza on the buffet all day at Pisano's Pizza.
Derrick Abel: I'd like to open up a carry out and delivery lindenloft's again. But last time I didn't have community support.
