Rick Smith - deceased

J. R. “Rick” Smith, 67, of Parsons, died at 1:40 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2014 at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born February 7, 1946 at Medicine Lodge. His parents were Lewis “Art” Smith and Phyllis (Creath) Smith. Both parents preceded him in death.
The family lived in Coffeyville before moving to Parsons in 1950. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1964.
For over 20 years he worked as a machinist for the M-K-T Railroad. He owned and operated a trucking business and also was a partner with his parents in the Smith Liquor Store.
He enjoyed motorcycles, spending time at the lake, scuba diving and playing pool.
His wife, Elizabeth “Liz” preceded him in death on November 11, 2010.
Survivors include his son – Scott Smith and his wife Stacy, of Dennis; daughter – Stephanie Smith and her companion Richard Tootle, of El Reno, OK; four grandchildren – Shayla and Stormy Smith; Caitlin and Colby Sanders; and sister – Vickey SMITH Reel and her husband Donnie, of Parsons.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Memorials are suggested to either the Labette Health Foundation or the Parsons Area Community Foundation Sons and Daughters Fund.
