Ronnie D. Walters, 67, of rural Erie, died at 4:55 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his home.

He was born November 15, 1946, in Parsons, Kansas, to Elmer T. and Emma S. (Essig) Walters. He grew up in Parsons where he attended school and was a 1964 graduate of Parsons High School. He then served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Vietnam during the war.

Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Parsons where he worked at various jobs until 1985. At that time, he was employed by Dayton Superior where he worked as a lead man in automatic fabrication until his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, winemaking and woodworking.

He and Janet M. Moriarty were married September 18, 1992, in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2004. On May 17, 2008, he and Donna M. Madl were married in Erie. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Michael Walters and his wife, Cristine, of Parsons, KS; one daughter, Susan Baker and her husband, Rodney, of Dennis, KS; three step-daughters, Amanda Queen and her husband, Dave, of Wichita, KS, Karen Peoples, of Altamont, KS, and Christina Heady, of Parsons, KS; two stepsons, Clete Heady, of Parsons, KS, and Craig Heady, of Parsons, KS; seventeen grandchildren; two brothers, Leslie Walters, of Coffeyville, KS, and Lowell Walters, of Mesa, AZ; and one sister, Sandra Nance, of McCune, KS.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Meryl and Kenny Walters.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main, in Parsons. Memorial graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Springhill Cemetery near Parsons with Rev. Jim Stigall officiating.
