On Friday, July 13, 1923 God called her to him at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 2 days. She moved to Ohio at age 18, and from there to Indiana where she was united to Charles S. Strahan June 26, 1886, at Farmland, Indiana. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive her: Mrs. Edna Trammel of Bartleville, Oklahoma, Mrs. May Locke, Mrs Bernice Hughes, Clay and Lela Strahan of Galesburg, Kansas, and little daughter of 3 years, Hazel, having gone before her on November 27, 1895. She was christened in the Dunkard Church in West Virginia when a babe. In her youth she united with the United Brethren Church in Indiana and later transferred her membership to the Christian Church in Galesburg, in which she has continued until her death, a faithful and devoted Christian, knowing her God was with her and submitting to his will at all times. Also she became an earnest member and worker in the Rebekah Degree of Odd Fellows, and believed most heartily in its principles and ideals. She held the office of Noble Grand at the time of her passing. Mrs. Strahan was stricken with heart trouble in August 1922, and had been a patient sufferer ever since, being confined to her bed much of the time. The last ten weeks her suffering was intense and God alone gave her strength to endur the added affliction of cancer which came upon her at this time and resulted in her death. On Friday morning at 3:00 am the call which she has been awaiting for months came and found her ready and willing to gol. And she went peacefully to her Savior, telling her family that she was going to her Savior, the her sufferings were over and her crown awaited her. She leaves husband, five children, eight grandchildren, three brothers and one sister to mourn her departure. She leaves her family a rich heritage of memories of her love, self-sacrifice and devotion, for her life was poured out lavishly in service upon her home. Motherhood was her crown. Surely it may be said of her as the Wise Man of old wrote of the perfect woman, "Her children shall rise up and call her blessed, her husband also and he praiseth her." Funeral services were conducted from the Galesburg Christian Church by Dr. Kersey of Parsons and burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. The attendance at the funeral was among the largest ever held in Galesburg, attesting to the high esteem in which Mrs. Strahan was held by our people.
