CATHIE TOLMAN WAS NO DUMB BLONDE AND SHE COULD SING Albuquerque (1948) Western Movie Randolph Scott Several more movies over to the right Nov. 27, 1920 to Sept. 10, 2015 Alice Tolman, 94, went to be with her Lord at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Elmhaven East nursing home in Parsons, Kansas. Zella “Alice” Eden was born on Nov. 27, 1920, to Grover and Zella (Jones) Eden at Barton, New Mexico. She was the oldest of six children. Her siblings were Helen Carder, Chester Eden, Corrine Chevez, James Eden and Velnor Mae Peak, all of whom have preceded Alice in death. She grew in the Barton and Edgewood, N.M., area and attended schools there. Alice married Eugene Monroe Tolman on June 6, 1941. After living in Albuquerque, they farmed in Durango, Colorado before moving to Wyoming near Yellowstone National park to homestead. They moved to farm near Lake Parsons and were members of United Brethren Church. Alice and Gene retired near Edgewood, N.M., and enjoyed active fellowship in First Baptist Church of Edgewood, Alice camping out with the teens at camp. She also took classes to learn sign language. Gene passed away in April 1989, and Alice remained on their acreage until age 80. Then Alice moved to Parsons to be near children, enjoying participation in Faith United Methodist Church. She spent a multitude of hours volunteering as a pink lady at Labette County Medical Center. She also loved to volunteer at the Parsons Senior Center and to give “the elderly” rides to church. Alice spent her last years at Woodridge Estates, then in Elmhaven East, in Parsons, finding pleasure in each setting. She is survived by her children, Eugene Tolman Jr. (Thann), Barbara Schrodt (Richard), Cathie Todd (Wayne), Helen Lorenz (James) and Floyd Tolman (Patty). She has and took delight in 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and has many nieces and nephews. The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Carson Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Barton Cemetery (Mountain Valley Cemetery), Barton, N.M. GO BACK | ||
