LEMMOND - Charles Allen (Chub), 63, of Tulsa OK died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at his home. Charles was born on March 5, 1946 in Parsons, KS, to Ed and Anna (Anderson) Lemmond. Charles graduated from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS with a Bachelor of Science in Auto Technology. He also served his country in the armed forces serving both in the army and as an active reservist. Charles turned his childhood love of aircraft and auto mechanics into a full-time career following the attainment of his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license. He held a commercial pilot's license for single engine planes, glider and glider towing licenses. His dedication to craftsmanship, attention to detail, specialized knowledge and skills earned him respect from fellow pilots and auto enthusiasts. Following college, Charles moved to Cushing, OK where he worked for nearly 10 years. Since 1977, Charles lived in the Jenks and Tulsa areas. One of his early accomplishments was building and flying experimental aircraft. He was particularly proud of his Cassette racer which he flew to the EAA convention in Oshkosh WI on numerous occasions. He and his dog Rebel loved to hunt and fish. Charles' artistic skills were evident in his carving and decorating of duck decoys and gun stocks. A long time project was the restoration of the Model T Ford he had since high school. Charles was a life-long learner studying history, nature and craftsmanship. Charles is survived by: his daughter, Susan Lemmond, her companion John Thompson, and her mother Mary. Also surviving are his special friend Tammy Cline; aunt, Minnie (Anderson) Sheffer, her children Jane, Jann, and Mark Sheffer; cousins, C'Anne, Susan, Nick, Bruce, Brett, Lesie, Joyce, and Karen Anderson, James (Randy) Lemmond and nieces Dawn and Debbie Lemmond. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed Lemmond and Anna (Anderson) Lemmond, his brother Bill, grandparents, Oscar and Reno Anderson, aunt and uncle, Charlaine and Oscar Anderson, uncle, Melvin Anderson and Mary Anderson and cousin, Ben Anderson A viewing will be held at Butler Stumpff Funeral Home in Tulsa (918-587-7000). The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 18 from 5 - 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at Jones/Riverside Airport on Saturday, September 19 at noon (918-645-6228).
