Tribute TO DAVID BRENNER
From JOHNNY LINDEN on August 22nd, 2014

DAVID BRENNER AND I WERE BEST FRIENDS. I WAS CRUSHED WHEN STEVE COOPER CAME BY MY CLASS AT PITTSBURG AND TOLD ME ABOUT DAVID. I WAS GLAD THEY DIDN'T ASK ME TO BE A PALLBEARER, BECAUSE I WAS CRYING SO HARD AT HIS FUNERAL, I COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT. RICK TUCKER WAS ONE OF HIS PALLBEARERS.

DAVID WAS AN EAGLE SCOUT AND AS FINE A PERSON AS YOU COULD EVER MEET. WE WERE IN SCOUTS TOGETHER. I WAS SO PROUD OF DAVID, WHEN I LEARNED THEY NAMED THE NATIONAL GUARD STATION AT PARSONS AFTER HIM. YOU SHOULD STOP BY THE BUILDING AND SEE DAVID'S BIG PICTURE IN THE LOBBY, OR JUST GO BACK 1 PICTURE HERE TO #37. I'VE STILL GOT THE PARSONS NEWSPAPER TELLING THE HORRIBLE NEWS ABOUT DAVID.

I STOPPED BY TO SEE DAVID'S DAD IN THE LATE EIGHTIES AND INTRODUCED HIM TO MY TWO DAUGHTERS. HE WAS THRILLED TO SEE US. I USED TO DREAM ABOUT DAVID FOR MANY YEARS. I NOW HAVE HIS PICTURE ON MY DESKTOP PICTURES ON MY COMPUTER.

GOD BLESS DAVID BRENNER.

DAVID & I WENT OUT TO MY FOLKS CABIN ON THE RIVER QUITE OFTEN. WE TOOK MY DADS BOAT AND WENT AS FAR NORTH AS YOU COULD GO TILL YOU RUN INTO SOME SHALLOW RAPIDS ONE DAY.
ANOTHER TIME WE WERE SHOOTING RIFLES OUT IN THE WOODS ALONG THIS CREEK AND WE SAW SOMETHING RED ON TOP OF A BIG TREE LAYING ACROSS THE CREEK. WE SHOT AT THE RED THING AND WHEN WE GOT UP TO THE LOG, IT TURNED OUT TO BE SOMEBODY'S GAS CAN LEAKING GAS ALL OVER THE LOG. DAVID SLIPPED OFF THE LOG AND SCRATCHED UP HIS BACK WITH THE GASOLINE BURNING HIS BACK REALLY BAD.
ANOTHER TIME WE WENT OUT TO THE RIVER WHEN IT WAS ABOUT 0 DEGREES AND WERE WALKING ON THE ICE WHERE A CREEK MET THE RIVER. WE WERE SMART ENOUGH NOT TO GO VERY FAR OUT ACROSS THE RIVER.
ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE PHS GRADUATION IN 1964, SEVERAL OF US WENT UP TO GALESBURG TO THE ROCK QUARRY. IT HAD PRETTY CLEAR WATER, COMPARED TO THE MUDDY LAKE & RIVER. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN SWIMMING, DAVID SUNBURNED HIS BACK REALLY BAD. HE MISSED BACCALAUREATE ON SUNDAY BECAUSE HE HAD BIG BLISTERS ALL OVER HIS BACK.

Oldest Native American footage. David Brenner & other scouts used to do Native American Dances like the ones on this video.
