BUILDING AT MAIN & COURT COLLASPED. The former Royal Casket building at Court and Main has partially collapsed, raining debris onto both streets and the bridge over the railroad tracks. Several power lines in the area are at risk if the building collapses further, according to city spokesperson Tera Shores. The building, which had been having structural issues for several years, had been intended to be restored by its current owner, but no changes had been made since part of the roof collapsed earlier. The building is believed to be currently unoccupied. The city believes the building may collapse further, so it has roped off parts of the roads in conjunction with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, since Main Street is a state road. The city is asking people to plan alternate routes around the location. UPDATE: The city will demolish the building, two officials have confirmed, because it isn’t safe to leave it standing. Contractors will begin today. Electricity to parts of downtown will be turned off during the demolition, and police will patrol the area overnight to make sure no one wanders into the danger zone.
